A large Nuclear defence client at Aldermaston are looking for an experienced Civil/Structural Design Engineer who has SC clearance who has the ability to obtain DV clearance.
Senior Civil / Structural Design Engineer
Job/Role Purpose A key member of the Project Development team within DMP with responsibility for carrying out the duties of a Senior Civil / Structural Engineer
Specific Accountabilities: Ensure the preparation and delivery of 'civil' design solutions which fully comply with all applicable Legislation, British Standards and AWE Documentation to an agreed time, cost and quality. Ensure compliance, in all activities undertaken, with Company SQESH requirements. Ensure duties of design in relation to CDM and other relevant regulations are executed. Ensure 'civil' and 'structural' design tasks as allocated by Engineering Managers are delivered with appropriate designs and to agreed time, cost and quality requirements. To deliver work packages and design solutions that fully comply with SQESH, all applicable current and foreseeable forthcoming Legislation, British Standards and the clients Design Standards.
Qualifications (Preferred but not essential) Degree in an Engineering discipline or a Chartered Engineer but not necessarily both. Accredited Bachelors degree with Honours in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent Chartered Engineer Associate Member of a relevant Institution (eg ICE or IStructE)
Knowledge Technical knowledge of “civil” and “structures” orientated subjects, including design for sustainability. Undertaking design and configuration for the life of a project. Particular experience in the 'civil and structural' design of a variety of facilities including accommodation, manufacturing, research and testing facilities. Demonstrate a good understanding of fundamental principles of 'civil engineering' design methods as appropriate. Demonstrate a good understanding of technical standards and regulatory requirements for construction as appropriate. Understanding and experience of the influences of 'structural' design on the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site. Knowledge and use of New Engineering Contract and National Building Specification.
Experience Relevant experience within appointed discipline and knowledge with associated project delivery disciplines.
Skills Good technical and management skills including problem solving and decision making. Good oral, written and presentational skills with a particular aptitude for report, documentation and letter writing. Good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication to all levels to both internal and external personnel. Familiarity with standard office software; word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, presentations and databases.
