Our client is currently looking for an individual to oversee and co-ordinate the construction, design and architect engineer for their ambitious programme to build 4 New Nuclear Power Stations.
Nature and Scope Our clients ambition is to construct and operate up to 2 new nuclear plants (pairs of EPRs) in UK, currently under DCO application, the first being the Project at Hinkley Point C, Somerset.
The Project covers the two distinctive roles of Architect Engineer and Owner & future Operator. The Architect Engineer is in charge of all coordination, engineering of the nuclear island, conventional island and heat sink, and preparation of procurement services necessary for the Project whereas our client is responsible for coordinating the project, engineering remaining parts of the plant and coordinating all contractors on site during construction.
The Interface Manager role will be a key one within Nuclear New Build. This individual will be required to know the scope of the Construction Engineering Department and Architect Engineer, to design a process to ensure all communication transfers are tracked and sent to relevant design package leads to ensure schedule deadlines are met. The post holder will need to understand the interdependencies between the design packages of the Architect Engineer and Construction Engineering where a work being carried out by one team can impact the work of other teams and will thereby need to ensure communication is maintained to avoid any issues arising at a later stage.
Depending on the project development, the post holder could be assigned the responsibility of the management of a main design package (buildings, etc.). Skills and Qualifications • Typically degree qualified or equivalent experience in technical engineering • Membership of a Professional Institute leading to Chartered Status is an advantage • Solid experience on large engineering projects involving several interfaces • Experienced in UK, European, international standard for civil/electrical/mechanical works • General professional qualities as accuracy, tenacity, result-oriented and teamwork-oriented attitude, diplomacy • Efficient organisational skills • Ability to work independently and to be pro-active • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills notably with various levels of the organisation and externally • Discretion - confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
Principal Accountabilities The Interface Manager will ensure smooth and efficient management of technical interfaces across disciplines and design packages within Construction Engineering and with the Architect Engineer in France. •Establish and manage a virtual team of subject matter experts (e.g. telecom, electrical, drainage, …) in charge of streamlining the flow of interface requests, with clear responsibilities and delivery accountabilities. This will include understanding the scope of each design team, both within NNB Engineering and the Architect Engineer, using this knowledge to identify subject matter experts for each piece of work and forming project teams on this basis. •Set up a process and tools related to technical interface management to ensure effective communication between the Construction Engineering Department and the Architect Engineer. This will involve tracking the transfer of data, circulating this data to relevant individuals and ensuring schedule deadlines are met. •Understand schedule implications for the Construction Engineering Department to be able to forward plan and identify interface requirements. •Advise cross discipline team managers of where the key interfaces are
