We are looking for NSSS specialist to oversee the design of New Nuclear Power Station.
Nature and Scope Working within the Design Authority Function, the primary purpose of the role of Nuclear Steam Supply Systems (NSSS) Lead is as a leader of a team of professionals providing first class support to the UK EPR project on behalf of the Licensee organisation. Principally in providing an assurance function and enacting the role of intelligent customer, for design and safety case, to defined Nuclear Reactor systems for all activities associated with the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operation of the UK fleet of EPRs.
The NSSS Lead will be required to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders ensuring that their expectations are met wherever possible.
The NSSS Lead will have responsibilities for Technical Leadership, Staff development, Health and Safety, Work Planning, Succession Management, Quality Assurance, Financial management and skill development.
The NSSS Lead will be role model and demonstrate the highest standards of focus on nuclear professionalism and safety.
In addition to providing technical leadership to the team, the NSSS Team Lead will also take responsibility for the technical aspects of the team's responsibilities in their own area of expertise and will enact the role of intelligent customer for this technical area.
Principal Accountabilities 1.Support the Nuclear Island Systems Manager to recruit and develop a team to become plant and safety case experts for specified Nuclear Reactor systems. 2. Ensure unresolved design matters reach an adequate conclusion 3. Review and agree procurement specifications and other design documentation for specified systems in line with the procurement strategy 4. Assist in the development of the site specific safety case 5. Manage technical input to non-conformances and design changes for specified systems 6. Work effectively with and maintain a strong relationship with the Engineering organisation and regulatory bodies 7. Co-ordinate support from other external organisations 8. Develop and resolve commitments made in GDA for specified systems, structures and components. 9. Provide on-site technical oversight of the works 10. Monitor team resources, processes and activities continually to ensure optimum performance 11. Set team business plan and budgets, monitor expenditure 12. Hold line accountability over team members in respect of appointments, discipline, capability, performance review and salary progression
Skills and Qualifications You should have a degree in a relevant science or engineering subject, or equivalent qualification leading to chartered status.
Ideally you will have experience in nuclear power plant design and operation, dealing with regulatory issues and assessment, configuration management processes, managing challenging or complex safety cases and managing specialist groups.
You should have broad experience across a number of the technical areas outlined and preferably have a high level of competence in at least one of these.
Good technical writing and communications are also required.
To be successful in this role enthusiasm, the drive and determination to be commercially successful, great team working ability and fabulous communication skills, demonstrated under challenging conditions, are essential.
