Job Description |

Our client specialises in the provision of planning, design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide.
With a diverse selection of industries such as:- transportation, water, maritime and property, the company is undertaking commissions in over 70 countries from a network of more than 120 offices.
Their "water and power" structures group undertakes design and analysis on a wide range of projects in worldwide markets. Within the group we have a team specialising in locks and dock gates, as well as water control structures.
They are currently in need of a senior level experienced mechanical engineer, with an interest in the detailed design of mechanical assemblies and drive systems associated with the movement/operation of such structures. This includes small structures associated with river systems as well as major international projects where the structures can weigh between 60 tonnes and 4500 tonnes. The principal function of this position is to manage multi discipline Project teams of mechanical, electrical and ICA engineers and CAD designers/technicians. The team will be responsible for the development and detailing of designs to a level that components parts can be manufactured and the mechanical assemblies can be built and installed. This will include machine shop and fabrication details. The primary job requirements are: - Be capable of demonstrating experience in the management of multi discipline design teams
Have proven experience in the areas of design to be managed and will have worked in design offices associated with one or more of the following areas: mechanical handling plant; major hydro electric schemes; water controlling structures and dry dock gates maybe.
Some knowledge of Technical Product and Drawing Standards for the production of machine shop and fabrication details and International Design Standards will be essential. Standards include: BS 8888, BS 4500; BS 2573: DIN 19704; NFLPA, CETOP and OSHA, as well as AGMA, AFBMA, ASTM and NEMA Standards associated with winch operating machinery components
