 |
We are currently looking for Principal Consultants with a minimum of 10 years safety case experience in the Nuclear industry.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To manage projects with the use of project teams to satisfy client requirements. Maintain and demonstrate technical expertise and participate in marketing activities, identifying opportunities to leverage others.
The duties consist of: Technical: • Demonstrate technical expertise in at least three core knowledge skill areas to level two competency plus level two in a number of other prioritised skill areas and level three in at least one prioritised skill area. • Demonstrate potential for progress to Technical Authority (TA), if appropriate. • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature science and engineering judgement in anticipating and solving problems; • Produce technical reports to QA standards that present clear and reasoned arguments with supporting evidence; • Lead technical discussion and presentation of work to clients and Regulators; • Represent Company on technical matters to clients/external stakeholders; • Take lead for defined technical work packages in projects and provide deliverables to project management requirements; • Carry out coaching of lower grade consultants in partnership with their Line Manager (LM) and Project Manager (PM); • Provide advice/guidance to junior and other grades; • Provide technical support to TAs and training team for course development or presentation; • Provide checking to QA standards;
General: • Provide support to LM to develop and meet Section or Group Plan; • Support to Company management, and if appropriate, take on LM role; • Work at client offices; • Demonstrate a pro-active approach to meeting individual deployment target.
Project Management: Provide support to PMs i.e. project monitoring, QA sheets, tracking variations, progress reporting; Excellent understanding of all aspects of project management and PM responsibilities. PM for projects (large/complex) i.e: • Scope work and programme; • Undertake project risk assessment; • Define work packages; • Delegate work packages, where required, to consultants/associates and monitor spend against progress; • Track changes against scope and report progress to Project Director/Key Account • Managers/clients; • Ensure appropriate checking and approval of deliverables; • Ensure deliverables to client satisfaction and complete all QA requirements; • Take responsibility for development of consultants on project; • Provide consultant and/or associate feedback.
Minimum relevant experience: • Ten years relevant technical experience; • Demonstrate good level of project management experience for projects successfully completed.
CONTINUOUS PROGRESS RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrate ability and evidence experience in all areas of job description and other functions e.g. KAM, TA or Section Manager; Maintain a good understanding of the UK and international nuclear industry or sector and the factors which affect it such as: • International energy requirements and policies; • Government policy; • The health, safety and environmental legislative framework; • Nuclear licensing regimes.
Receive good feedback on all activities; Progress and define PDP through use of consultant feedback forms.
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE Extensive knowledge of scientific and engineering principles, theories and concepts and their applications to problem solving. Perform complex scientific and technical calculations and apply basic analytical principles to problem solving.
Excellent working knowledge of Company Quality Management System, operating policies and procedures.
Excellent understanding of the relevant legislation on health and safety and environmental protection and its application to particular industry sectors or of a specialised subject and its application.
A minimum of ten years related work experience. Excellent knowledge of the industry sector.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in engineering, science or related field of study. Equivalent successful work experience or equivalent technical qualification may be substituted for the education required. Postgraduate qualification is desirable.
Also Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional status is preferred.
Experience of managing a variety of projects.
