 |
The role of Nuclear Fuel and Liabilities (NFL) is to facilitate operational excellence in all aspects of nuclear fuel, liabilities and decommissioning management, and to ensure our radioactive wastes are properly managed. The radioactive waste management and liabilities department are responsible for the provision of authorised designer and SQEP support for all radioactive waste management activities within BE.
We wish to recruit a Radioactive Waste Management and Liabilities Engineer who will be based at either Barnwood or East Kilbride. NFL has staff based at both East Kilbride and Barnwood British Energy offices. We are looking for qualified professionals to contribute to, and ultimately take a lead in, this technically challenging work area. The post holder will be expected to be flexible and provide support, as required, to all BEG Corporate and Power Station fleet customers/sites. Duties will involve travel to BE locations, requiring time spent away from home. The primary activities and responsibilities include: • the provision of authoritative advice in radioactive waste management, liabilities and decommissioning to the BE fleet, BE Projects and corporate customers • development and maintenance of the radioactive waste safety cases for the BE fleet, including advising on safety case constraints and radioactive waste management principles • identifying opportunities and supporting work to implement improvements to the performance of the radioactive waste management systems • development and maintenance of the radioactive waste inventory for the BE fleet • development of robust decommissioning plans for the BE fleet • assessment of operational changes that impact BE’s nuclear liabilities
Previous experience in nuclear or other safety-critical engineering disciplines is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. In addition, knowledge or experience of power station radioactive waste systems would be an advantage. Experience in the development of safety cases would also be an advantage.
Essential attributes/experience: • a degree or equivalent in engineering, mathematics, or scientific discipline; membership of a relevant professional body is desirable • a flexible and proactive results based approach to work • builds effective relationships, a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills • preparation of technical reports and supervision/project management of the delivery of technical reports from sub contractors • the ability to prioritise and deal with multiple projects/tasks
The salary range for this role is between £25,655 and £55,357. The starting salary for this appointment will be within this range dependent on the successful candidate’s existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate may be required by the company to undertake a role in the emergency scheme. This may necessitate the individual being on a standby rota. Appropriate payments in accordance with the Company Agreement would be made in the event that this is required.
