Our client with in the nuclear industry are currently looking for a Safety Case Engineer to develop and mange the safety case during the design and construction of 2 new nuclear power stations.
Job Purpose: To enact the role of intelligent customer for the safety case especially those elements that span multiple disciplines. To support development of processes for management of the safety case and its configuration control. To ensure that the safety case is not compromised by ensuring the team is engaged in the design, procurement, construction and operational processes.
Principal Accountabilities: • To understand the safety case especially those elements that span multiple disciplines. • Support the development of processes for safety case management, modification control and configuration control. • Manage the production and development of the sections of the site specific safety case. • Support the system groups in developing changes to the safety case. • Provide safety case input to non-conformances and design changes for specified systems. • Work effectively and maintain a strong relationship with EDF Engineering and regulatory bodies. • Co-ordinate support from other external organisations. • Develop and resolve commitments made in GDA in transverse areas. • Interface with the Regulator in the areas of safety case management and broad scope safety cases.
Nature and Scope: Design Authority will: • Be the intelligent customer for the safety case through technical oversight during licensing, procurement, manufacture, construction, commissioning and operation; • Understand, lead the production of and eventually own and control the safety case; • Maintain design integrity. • In their intelligent customer role, the role holder will be required to advise systems groups and the responsible designers on the adequacy of the safety cases produced by them. • The role holder will need to develop effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including NNB Gen Co, EDF Engineering, external regulators and suppliers.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience: Qualifications and Experience Degree or equivalent in physical science, maths or engineering Chartered engineer status would be desirable
Technical and Commercial Knowledge and Skills • Demonstrable evidence of complex safety case management/production within the nuclear industry in the some or all of the following areas: Hazards, Probabilistic Safety Assessment/Human Factors, Structural Integrity, Reactor Faults • Identification and resolution of issues and development work within the life cycle of nuclear plant construction through to operational level. • Experience in safety related, regulated environment e.g. nuclear or petrochemical industry • Excellent organisational skills • Ability to operate autonomously or as part of a team • Understanding the needs of quality • Decision making capability for resolution of safety case issues • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers
