OrionGroup's Client is looking to recruit a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer. This is a permanent position based in the North-West of Scotland, although the successful candidate would be expected to be fully mobile, nationally and internationally.
Essential skills and experience: Education and experience to contain a balance of civil and structural engineering in both heavy and light environments, including the design and construction of foundations of both simple and complex natures. Knowledge and understanding of the practices and methodologies available to 'design for durability.' In-depth understanding of the differences between building and engineering through the application of appropriate design codes and standards. Intimate knowledge of formal methods in the assessment of existing buildings and engineering structures in order to facilitate 'forensic reverse engineering' when necessary. Ability to technically review project concepts and deliverables. Macro and micro management of people and projects. Flexible approach to working.
Desirable skills and experience: Understanding the methods and processes to engineer resilience and contingency into projects. Has experience in undertaking ‘buildability' reviews. Good communication skills. Has undertaken designs that are 'out of the norm' and pushed the technical boundaries relating to their production. Ability to work remotely and to communicate in various media. International experience would be useful. An understanding of the physical world, the processes and practices of building and construction. Knowledge of demolition process and practices.
