Job Description

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Occupational Hygienist to provide the necessary support to Production to enable work to proceed without significant health or safety risk and in accordance with legislation and best practice.

The Senior Occupational Hygienist (SOH) will be responsible for advising management and employees on compliance with relevant legislation such as COSHH, noise, lead, asbestos and vibration regulations. Working within the Health and Safety department they will also advise on how to comply with our clients in house standards. With regards to the appropriate legislation the successful candidate will assess health and safety risk and where appropriate measurement of levels of exposure to harmful substances, noise and vibration.

As the SOH you will formulate and conduct workplace inspections to check compliance status as well as identifying harmful activities and investigating causes of ill health. You will be responsible for investigating and researching suitable and cost effective measures to prevent or reduce exposure levels as necessary. This should be undertaken by means of process change, ventilation, respirators and protective equipment although this list is not exhaustive.

You will hold experience of the management of occupational hygiene information notably the risk assessments made under the appropriate legislation. You will be required to represent our client in meetings concerning occupational hygiene with HSE Inspectors, trade groups and professional bodies. As the SOH you will manage the ongoing training and development of our occupational hygienist as well as providing training to our clients personnel with regards to legislation and in house standards.

You will be required to communicate and report findings from the above responsibilities to different departments across our client such as Health & Safety, Materials, Insurance and Estates. You will exchange information and solutions so that issues and reports can be actioned and finalised.

You will be educated to degree level and because of the senior level responsibility be a member of the Institute of Occupational Hygienists. We are especially interested in discussing this opening with individuals who hold the BEBOH Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene.
