A leading International Energy business is looking for a Nuclear Consultant with a specialism in Human Performance. You will be responsible for implementing strategic plans to fully embed human performance and safety culture principles.
Job Purpose: This position requires an innovative and self motivated nuclear leader to support the achievement of Nuclear New Build (NNB) nuclear safety culture objectives. You must be focused on achieving excellence in the development of a strong nuclear safety culture and implementation of effective human performance techniques. You will demonstrate high ethical behaviour, integrity and character and be a role model of nuclear excellence. You should be cognisant of the cultural differences that exist between teams and team members and be able to act accordingly. You will initially be responsible for establishing working behaviours that insist on the use of error reduction techniques and will support the Nuclear Professionalism Manager and the Site Construction Director to establish and lead a combined company / Contractor Nuclear Safety Culture Peer Group focussing on shared working practices and common behaviours and attitudes.
Dimensions: • Acting on behalf of the Safety Director, establish and chair the site based Nuclear Safety Culture Peer Group to provide direction and focus for the human performance and safety culture development programmes of construction site work force. • Using nuclear experience to lead the development of safety culture of the site based teams including Design Authority and construction team members. • Advise Site Construction Director and Safety Director on matters relating to culture, behaviour and human performance. • Gain support to enable implementation of initiatives. • Implement strategic interventions through leadership, setting of clear objectives and influencing skills with the objective of improving performance of contract partners at company and local level. • Lead internal assessments using internationally recognised assessment methodologies to identify areas for improvements (AFI's) and to identify the culture climate.
Principal Accountabilities: • Site based chairman of the Construction Site Safety Culture peer group acting on behalf of the Safety Director. • Lead a team of senior site based safety culture and human performance specialists drawn from across site based contract and personnel with the objective of developing a strong nuclear safety culture in the work place and initiating a recognisable culture. • To quantify the culture climate which exists across all parties on the sites and assist the team manager to identify critical strategies to constantly strive to achieve nuclear excellence. You will have experience of nuclear safety culture excellence in existing nuclear installations and/or overseas nuclear operations. • You should have a detailed knowledge of the nuclear industry guidelines and published standards of excellence relevant to this role and use this expertise to provide advice to Senior Site Construction staff. • Contract manages, supervises and directs the work of appointed consultant specialists. • Detailed understanding of the Nuclear Site Licence and its supporting conditions. • Maintaining a detailed knowledge of best international practice both from inside the nuclear industry and outside, ensuring that at all times that NNB GenCo practices remain fluid and able to respond to changes required through identified good practices or areas for improvement in our own approach. • Act as a coach in the field to provide essential support for the team and gather necessary intelligence for future programme enhancement. • Lead the development of communications material and promotional devices to raise the profile of the safety culture and error reduction programmes. • Be an ambassador for the organisational learning programme (OLP) by promoting and encouraging the use of the OLP, demonstrating its capability and constantly striving to enhance its efficiency.
Nature and Scope: You will possess sufficient technical nuclear knowledge and experience to ensure that the complex nature of nuclear systems and human interaction with these systems can be communicated with authority. A deep understanding of the methodologies that support both technical and organisational defence in depth systems is essential in allowing you to implement the Nuclear Safety Culture Strategy and influence site construction staff at all levels of the organisation.
You are required to work autonomously in the analysis of site nuclear and conventional safety culture climate by using experience and specific analysis tools such as staff survey results and observation techniques and will be a key player in providing feedback to the Site Construction Director and Safety Directorate. This analysis is vital to the effectiveness of the safety culture strategy and requires specific skill and diplomacy in its detection and reporting. You will be the 'go to' person to deal with site based nuclear professionalism issues and nuclear safety culture development needs requiring judgement, integrity and decision making skills.
Using WANO assessment methodologies and international standards to carry out periodic assessments of the Organisation and Administration (OA) of the site based project team including Organisational Effectiveness (OR), Safety Culture (SC) Human Performance (HU), Self Evaluation (SE- Learning Organisation) to identify areas for improvement and suggested actions. Post incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience: • Degree qualified or equivalent in a related discipline. • Significant experience in a nuclear operations environment. • Leadership experience within the nuclear industry. • Advanced practitioner of human performance and error reduction techniques. • Practical experience of project management.Matchtech Group Plc is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy. |
