Our client has a new requirement for a Wave Resource Analyst for work in the Wave Energy Sector
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required
The successful candidate will be required to have a keen interest in the renewable energy sector. A strong mathematical or science based background together with experience of oceanographic and coastal processes is essential. The ideal candidate will also have experience using Matlab, and wave models such as SWAN or DHI Mike21SW and ArcView. The candidate will also be required to have good communication and report writing skills.
The challenges for the Wave Resource Assessment Analyst will include:
• Advising on ADCP or other resource assessment device placement • Analysis and calibration of wave climate and ADCP data • Carrying out 'site layout analysis' of devices • Computing 'Energy Production Estimates' for wave farms • Setting up and running of wave, sediment transport and tidal models
The Numerical Modelling role (subject to performance review after one year) will require the successful candidate to respond to and lead a wide variety of analytical, practical and technical numerical modelling challenges. Areas of particular focus include:
• Device modelling using using Matlab and Simulation X • Investigation and quantification of device performance improvements and design modifications • Development of existing in-house Matlab and Simulation X models • Lead either in house or outsourced CFD work as required • Establish and run new research collaborations with universities in the area of numerical modelling • Contribute to any APL academic publications as appropriate
Competence
• Engineering, mathematics or physical sciences degree • Oceanography or relevant renewables Masters or PhD • Experience of MATLAB is essential • Experience using wave models such as DHI MIKE21 SW or SWAN is preferred but not essential as training will be provided • Knowledge of oceanographic and coastal processes is preferred but not essential • Strong abilities in mathematics and problem solving • Keen interest in the renewable energy sector and in particular wave energy • Excellent communication and report writing skills required
This job is permanent and based in our Head Office in Edinburgh.
